According to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association, March 2016 witnessed the 15th consecutive monthly increase in demand for new commercial vehicles. The highest monthly growth rates were recorded in the EU12 countries, where registrations rose 15.9% in March alone. The UK was at the forefront of this growth, boasting 70,636 new registrations in the same month. Most of the new UK registrations were for commercial vehicles weighing under 3.5 tons, although growth has been witnessed across the full range of goods vehicles.
The exact UK figures are as follows:
● Light Commercial Vehicles: 63,913 new registrations (year on year increase of 3.3%)
● Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles: 5,715 new registrations,4,263 of which were over 16 tonnes. (Also rising 3.3% year on year)
Furthermore, during Q1 of 2016 the total EU commercial vehicle market expanded by 12.1%, totalling 563,132 new commercial vehicles hitting the roads. Meanwhile, registrations of buses and coaches weighing over 3.5 tonnes dropped by 13.2%.
