HSE Manager

Overview

CPD Bodies is a market-leading manufacturer of commercial vehicle conversions, supplying bespoke tippers, lutons, dropsides, and van conversions to customers across the UK.

As we continue to grow, we’re now looking for an experienced and commercially driven Internal Sales Manager to lead our internal sales team and maximise performance across all conversion sales activity.

The Role

The Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Manager will lead the development, implementation, and continual improvement of HSE policies, systems, and procedures across our engineering, manufacturing, workshop, and maintenance operations. This pivotal role ensures the business remains fully compliant with all relevant legislation, industry standards, and internal requirements, supporting our commitment to a safe, responsible, and legally compliant working environment.

Working closely with senior leaders and operational teams, the HSE Manager will champion a strong safety culture, drive best practices, and lead initiatives that enhance the company’s overall health, safety, and environmental performance. In addition, the role includes responsibility for site facilities management, ensuring our premises remain safe, compliant, well-maintained, and fit for operational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing improvement of the company’s Health, Safety, and Environmental Management System.
  • Conduct and update risk assessments across engineering, manufacturing, workshop, and vehicle maintenance operations, ensuring effective hazard controls are in place.
  • Ensure full compliance with HSE legislation and industry standards, providing expert advice to management and staff.
  • Manage incident investigations, identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and maintain statutory reporting.
  • Deliver HSE training and promote strong safety awareness and behavioural safety across the workforce.
  • Carry out regular workplace inspections, machinery checks, and safety audits, ensuring equipment and facilities meet regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee environmental compliance, including waste management, emissions, and pollution control, and support sustainability initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans and ensure emergency equipment is tested, maintained, and compliant.
  • Maintain accurate HSE documentation and provide regular performance reports to senior management.
  • Drive continuous improvement in safety culture, environmental performance, and operational risk management.
  • Manage site facilities, including maintenance, contractor coordination, compliance checks, and emergency system testing.

Skills

  • NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent occupational H&S qualification (minimum requirement)
  • Membership of IOSH or equivalent professional body.
  • Additional qualifications in environmental management (e.g., ISO 14001) or industrial safety (e.g., IOSH Managing Safely) are desirable.
  • Strong understanding of UK HSE legislation, best practices, and compliance requirements
  • Experience in HSE management role ideally within engineering, manufacturing, automotive, commercial vehicle or heavy industry sectors
  • Proven experience conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, audits, and implementing HSE systems in high-risk environments
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations, waste handling, and sustainability practices.
  • Passionate about driving a positive safety culture and continuous improvement
