Sustainable Fleet Support for Northumbrian Water

Sustainable Fleet Support for Northumbrian Water

The Challenge

Northumbrian Water needed to return a number of Toyota Hilux vans to operational use. While the vehicles were mechanically sound, they required refurbishment to meet fleet safety and presentation standards. VLS (Vehicle Lease & Service) asked CPD to deliver this work cost-effectively, minimising downtime while ensuring the vehicles remained reliable for field operations.

Our Approach

Working from our in-house facility, CPD carried out a structured refurbishment programme designed to extend vehicle service life and reduce total cost of ownership. Key steps included:

  • Bodywork restoration to address rust and surface damage, preserving vehicle integrity.
  • Exterior refresh through dent correction, livery removal, machine polish and valet, improving professional presentation.
  • Interior updates with new seat covers and floor mats to maintain driver comfort and hygiene.
  • Component preservation, including inspection and retention of winches and other essential fittings.
  • Final quality assurance, ensuring each vehicle met fleet safety and usability standards before re-entry into service.

The Outcome

The reconditioned Hilux vans were returned to VLS and Northumbrian Water with minimal downtime, ready for safe and efficient deployment across the utility network. This approach extended the useful life of the fleet, avoided unnecessary replacement costs, and ensured compliance with operational standards.

Key Takeaway

This project demonstrates how targeted refurbishment provides fleet operators with a practical, value-driven alternative to full vehicle replacement - keeping essential vehicles safe, reliable, and cost-effective in the field.
